Spring Skincare Series: Rose Peppermint Plumping Lip Scrub
Exfoliating is a great way to keep your skin looking fresh, but did you know most produced exfoliants contain shards of plastic that are not only harsh on your skin, they're also harsh on the environment when they wash down the drain? I'm very into exfoliants for my body and face, but after making most of my organic skincare purchases from Lush, I wanted to try something new. After scouring the internet for some DIY ways to keep my skin smooth, I stumbled across a post for a DIY rose lip scrub. Because Valentines day is upon us, I thought it might be nice to share this post with some of you looking for quick and easy ways to keep your lips smooth for the Holiday of Love. I decided to try the lip recipe, but put my own twist to it by adding peppermint oil for a plumping affect to ensure your lips are prepped for your Valentine.
Here's what you'll need:
- 1/3 Cup of Castor Sugar (Castor sugar is more fine than Granulated Sugar, so it's easier on your lips thinner skin.)
- Handful of rose petals (Any color, I used Red)
- 1 Teaspoon Coconut Oil (melted)
- 1/4 Teaspoon Peppermint Oil
- Small Glass Jar (I picked this one up at Target for around $3)
My rose petals were pretty fresh, so I just popped them into the oven for 2-3 minutes to dry them out. They'll also need to be chopped into smaller pieces so I just put them into my Nutribullet blender. A food processor or normal blender will work just as well!
Next you'll want to place all of the ingredients into a bowl and mix them together. You may want to add more coconut oil to your mixture for a wetter consistency.
After you've stirred your ingredients together you'll simply place the mixture into your glass jar and enjoy!
*Lip Tip: After using the scrub on your lips, add some chapstick before applying matte lipstick to avoid cracked and unkissable lips.
This DIY lip scrub was so easy to make! Once I had all of the ingredients together it took me no longer than 5 minutes, and the added peppermint oil definitely make my lips feel plumper. Hope you enjoyed this post, if you try it out be sure to take a photo and tag me on IG (@hey.candace) so I can see.

The Skincare series continues next week!
