New Year, New Me?

2023 has come with a bang and launched us into another year that begs the question “New Year, New Me?” An inquiry that asks us all to sit back and think about who we want to be this year? What persona are we carrying forward and what unspeakable attributes are we leaving behind?

Too many times, resolutions focus on what we want to change about ourselves without acknowledging the things we want to continue or take with us into the new year. Well, I like to encourage more celebration over individual wins and, personally speaking, 2022 was a self-care slay! I prioritized rest, and moved my body more than in other years. I learned what it meant to truly put up boundaries and learn to trust in myself more. I wasn’t afraid to put myself first even if that meant slowing down or missing out. Sometimes the internet feels too fast anyway, I want my content to encourage more slowing down, taking in, and soaking up.

That’s not to say there isn’t room for improvements or new ways to find oneself along the way. This season I’m focusing on leveling up—but to me that just means building on top of what I already worked hard for in 2022.

My current focus for the winter season? They are as follows:

  • Finding my true sense of style
I’m beyond exhausted keeping up with social media fashion trends that are “out” quicker than it took them to become “in” again. I turn 28 this year and, the way I see it, it’s time to just be me. I’ve always been drawn to neutrals and I never mind experimenting with color but I’m much more into interesting silhouettes and textures than figuring out how to wear the Pantone color of the year and what it says about my outward personality.
Current Style Muses: Solange, Zoe Kravitz, Lori Harvey + Tracee Ellis Ross.

  • Carving out a morning routine
This is such a huge one for me this year. When you're balancing adulting with mental health battles like anxiety or depression—sometimes starting your morning can feel next to impossible. My goal for this quarter is to really set myself up for success so I’ve pinned little morning routine post-its around my apartment to help keep me on track. Small, simple tasks like this give my mornings structure so that I have something to look forward to when getting out of bed.

  • Building out my soft goals for 2023
I know we’re not really talking about what’s “in” or “out” anymore but one thing that’s definitely “out” for me is setting unrealistic goals and expectations for myself at the beginning of every year. I usually lean into what I call Soft Goals which are perfectly attainable lifestyle choices that (for me, anyway) just feel like helpful additions to my overall wellness journey. And when I say wellness I mean positive shit that I enjoy that helps me feel sane—not cure-all supplements and magic potions that suck up all of my money. We’re about health and wellness rather than wealth and hellness in this house.

Thanks for reading! What are some of your self-care goals for the new year?
